Des Moines TrailsDes Moines County, Iowa, in coordination with the City of Burlington, Iowa, is developing a recreational trail to connect the Des Moines County Big Hollow Recreation Area, near Mediapolis, to the Burlington riverfront. The trail is intended for use by walkers, runners, bicyclists, and cross-country skiers. The approximately 16-mile-long trail will be the longest trail in Iowa that is not on railroad right-of-way.

French-Reneker-Associates selected the route of the trail after considering many alternative routes. French-Reneker-Associates assisted in the land acquisition, which involved easements across private property.  French-Reneker-Associates also did the final design of the trail.

The $10 million project is being funded by local donations, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP).
