French-Reneker-Associates was hired to serve as the engineer for a cattle confinement and waste storage facility being built by Dennis Brown of Cedar, Iowa. The confinement was partially funded by the USDA-NRCS Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and therefore required the design services of an engineer. Our resident agricultural engineer, Kent Rice, took the lead in working with Mr. Brown in determining the site layout, working with the building manufacturer, designing the floor and wall concrete systems of the building, overseeing construction, complying with special rules and regulations set forth for EQIP-funded projects, and completing documentation required by the funding agency. The building measured 60’ x 360’ and will be used as a dry-pack confinement to house 499 cattle from weaning through finishing.
